| First
and foremost, I am a student of history, especially early America
and the Old West. I enjoy capturing that period with my paintings.
There is plenty of subject matter on the history of the West to
research. I like to place myself back in time to see how the situation
and moment would translate into an appealing picture. Design to
a painting is very important. When designing a painting I rely
on my art direction and graphic design background in getting my
painting to have a sense of drama to it. I develop a strong point
of interest to the painting to immerse the viewer into the painting.
With
landscape painting, I am always on the lookout for picturesque
scenes. If a view has merit and is pleasing to the eye, I immediately
capture the mood with quick sketches in black and white. Later,
working from the sketches, I complete the finished oil painting
in my studio. It is a challenge to capture nature with its wondrous
colors and subtleties of shades of light and dark. I want the
person viewing my paintings to get the same feeling that I experienced
when I first viewed the scene.
I
graduated with a bachelor's degree from Iona College in 1978 and
attended Pratt Institute, School of Visual Arts and the Reilly
League of Artists.
From
1984 and 1996, I served as President and Creative Director of
Fama & Associates, Inc. I also served as an Art Director for
several advertising agencies in New York City. I am a member of
the American Artist Professional League, and the Oil Painters
of America.
